I connect my Amazon Kindle Fire as usual to any of the USB ports on the HP laptop. It never shows up in the File Explorer, so I can't make any transfers. It is listed as a Media Device on the Devices  & Printer screen. windows did an update sometime in the past few weeks, and this is the first time I've attempted to use the Kindle since then. An external drive or a smartphone show up in all ports as expected, only the Kindle will not. It is currently plugged into a USB port, and the Kindle shows it is charging but does not appear at all in file explorer. Kindle says it is connected as a media device. I've tried all 3 ports with different cables

@rsatjuno

When I've run into this same problems on smart phones, it has always been due to two issues:

1) device driver -- lack of, that is

2) setting on the phone -- has to be set to file transfer, not media device

HP does not carry drivers for Kindles, so you would have to check with their support forums to see if you have to download a driver update to have it work on current Windows 10 systems.

Well, it's always worked before but I'll check with Amazon to see if there's been any changes there. Hope not, there are pictures I want to save to the computer. Thanks for the suggestion.
