HP ProBook 450 G2 Notebook

Hello everyone,

yesterday I wanted to charge my laptop as the battery was too low to start it.

When I plugged in the original cable (18.5V, 65W) nothing happened. So I took the cable from another laptop with slightly different specifications (19.5V, 65W).

Using the new cable (19.5V, 65W) the battery light, the power light and the caps lock light started blinking constantly. I couldn't start the laptop.

Could you please tell me what the reason could be and how to solve the problem? In my opinion the slight difference of the two cables shouldn't be an issue. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers

Thomas

Hi

I start here...

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/hp-probook-450-g2-notebook-pc/6943826

Sometimes the laptop will communicate with the charger to check if it is compatible and only 'connect' if it is.

That could be a reason.  It could be something else....

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/hp-probook-450-g2-notebook-pc/6943826/document/c02535922

If the notebook is operating near the HP ambient operating specification of 35 degrees Celsius, the battery may be delayed in charging. More specifically, if the battery is discharged and the AC adapter is connected, the battery may not charge again until the internal temperature of the battery becomes lower.

and I do not have a definitive answer.

Thank you for your answer.

I'm working at 20 degrees celsius. So the ambient temperature isn't an issue.

Also I've removed the battery from the laptop which didn't change anything. The leds kept on blinking.

I saw posts on the internet that based on the blinking pattern of the leds it should be possible to get a diagnostics.

Is there anyone who could provide more information on what the simultaneous blinking of battery light, power light and caps lock light means? Furthermore, are there any other ideas on the reason for the issue?

Thank you in advance.

Hi

The issue is why doesn't the original PSU give Blinking Lights, but a 'new' one does?

There should be a repeating sequence...

BIOS
2.2
The main area (DXE) of BIOS has become corrupted and there is no recovery binary image available. Also happens when updating BIOS.
Typically no steps needed.
  1. Allow the system to complete its updates and changes.
  2. If updates are stalling, attempt Sure Start Recovery.

Thermal
4.2
A processor over temperature condition has been detected.*
CPU overheat is detected.
  1. Verify fan(s) are working as expected.
  2. Clean fans.
  3. Reset CMOS.
  4. Replace thermal grease.
  5. Replace CPU.

If in doubt please ask.
