Actually, dust particles are always in the air around us and can get into the tiniest of spaces.
Touchpads can fail.
" some suggest restarting the battery"
I can't say that I understand what you mean by that.
The Lithium Ion battery usually either works or it doesn't, unless it is failing.
A battery that is beginning to swell can cause touchpad problems.
Did you try the hardware reset that I suggested?
"However, I don’t know how to open the laptop because it’s so thin, and I’m afraid to damage it."
There is nothing wrong in recognizing that possibility and realistically knowing one's own limitations. I respect that.
That is what we have laptop shops for and people who like to disassemble and assemble devices, no matter how small.
I have no problem with opening a laptop, tablet or mobile phone, but that is because of my training.
Replacing the touchpad would involve an extensive disassembly of the laptop.
I suggest using a wireless mouse with a usb dongle or a wired mouse as a workaround so it won't interfere with your work.
It is too bad that this did not happen while the laptop was still in its one year warranty period.
