Microsoft Windows 11

Hi!

My HP Laptop 14-em0008ua is slows down while charging: with each charge added charge, the computer begins to slow down for 7 seconds, which is why it is almost impossible to use the laptop. And, the task manager shows that the system is not loaded (CPU, GPU, RAM - all on low consumption). This happens only in the charging process - even when the power adapter is connected to the laptop, but the device is 100% charged. The default parameters of energy consumption were installed, the Windows system is installed only 4 days. Please tell me what this may be connected with, since I doubt that you need to turn off some services and programs from auto-start.

I checked everything you listed - nothing helped me. Even reinstalling the system did not help. I had to exchange the laptop for a laptop of another brand, thank you!

Hi @j0g032svh6,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're describing where your HP Laptop 14 slows down while charging, despite low system load (CPU, GPU, RAM), and even when fully charged, could be related to several factors.

Power Settings Configuration

  • Power Plan Settings: The power plan may be configured to limit performance when the laptop is plugged in. Even though you mentioned the default energy consumption settings, check that the "Processor Power Management" settings under the "Advanced Settings" in your power plan are set to allow the CPU to run at maximum performance while charging.
  • Thermal Management: The laptop might be throttling performance due to temperature management, where the system limits performance to prevent overheating.

Battery Health

  • Battery Issues: A failing or problematic battery can cause the laptop to behave unexpectedly when charging. If the battery is experiencing issues, it might cause the system to throttle or act erratically.

BIOS/Driver Issues

  • Outdated BIOS or Drivers: An outdated BIOS or system drivers might cause issues with how the laptop manages power. Ensure that your BIOS and system drivers are up to date by visiting the HP support website and downloading the latest versions for your laptop model.

Faulty Power Adapter

  • Power Adapter Issues: If the power adapter is faulty or not delivering consistent power, it could cause performance issues. Consider testing with another compatible power adapter if possible.

Background Processes

  • Background Processes: Although you mentioned that the system is not loaded according to Task Manager, some background processes related to power management or battery monitoring could be causing the slowdown. It may help to check for any unusual processes or services running when the laptop is plugged in.

Operating System Issues

  • Windows Installation: Since Windows was installed just four days ago, there might be some initial setup or indexing processes still running in the background. You may also consider checking for any recent updates or performing a clean boot to see if the issue persists.

Note:

  1. Update BIOS and Drivers: Ensure all drivers and the BIOS are up to date.
  2. Check Power Plan Settings: Adjust the "Processor Power Management" settings to ensure maximum performance while plugged in.
  3. Test with Another Power Adapter: If possible, try a different power adapter to rule out power delivery issues.
  4. Run Diagnostics: Use HP’s hardware diagnostics tool to check the battery and other hardware components.
  5. Perform a Clean Boot: Temporarily disable all non-Microsoft services and startup items to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
