Hello,
I'm looking to know how much Ram/Memory my new HP Laptop 15t-fd000 can handle?
It is the model with a Intel Core i5- 1335U
The HP spec manual for the laptop claims 16GB max.
I saw in some post in other forums that similar motherboards "in practice" and found by some users is ok with up to 32GB.
Also to add more confusion it appeared like HP links to Crucial.com on their website or manual for ram upgrades.
Crucial says 64GB max for my model when it did the model search on my laptop.
So I'm NOT looking to go to 64GB 😳🙃 but wondered if OVER 16GB was possible? 😁

You're very welcome, Alex.
Probably the notebook will support 2 x 16 GB of memory.
I am surprised the Windows report indicated the max was only 16 GB.
The Crucial memory report indicates the max is 64 GB.

Hi, Alex:
What I recommend you do is to run this command to see how much memory your notebook can support:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. After the command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the enter key.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your reply.
I did the command and calculation and came up with 16 GB.
Any ideas if that is just the 'spec' rating by the Motherboard and if it will accept more anyways. Just confused by what I read from other folks with different model HP laptops having a lot higher quantity of Ram. Could it be a not supported thing but it works?
Thank you for your service.

Hi!
Actually the Crucial max RAM tested config works, as confirmed by the fact that these systems are sold upgraded to 64GB of RAM on Amazon, Newegg, etc.
Paul, it seems that HP is populating the SMBIOS info only based on what it's offering as upgrades..... In my opinion the maxcapacity data has become quite unreliable.

Anytime, Alex.
Glad to have been of assistance.
Please post back and let us know if 32 GB of memory worked fine in your notebook.
Hi, Tzortzis: Yes, that may well be possible that using that command may not be as effective as it used to be.
Cheers,
Paul
