Hi,

My laptop is about 1 year old and has experienced a problem already directly after I bought it: the battery drains fast even when completely switched off. The problem is not always there, but regularly it is.

I have done the regular things to solve, such as energy settings, battery calibration, etc. Software says battery is OK.

As said: sometimes it seems to work well (battery remains at ~100% when shut down after fully loaded for a long period.

But sometimes, the battery goes empty fast when laptop is switched off

Below a screenshot of battery levels of the last days: in about 6 days, from 25% to 0% while laptop has not been used.

Strange to see that every day there are some 'steps down' in energy level registered even when switched off.

Anyone having or had the same problem and solution of advice how to solve?

Thanks in advance, Franklaptop HP battery.jpg

Don't worry! We are in your corner.

To get the answer to this question, this is a fairly common problem, and it's usually caused by the app running in the background. Sometimes, even due to improper shutdown, the battery will drain faster when laptop is turned off.

Thanks Echo_lake,

Short update: I have done a full update of my laptop. I saw quite some updates pending (also BIOS, etc.). My gut feeling is that updates often solved the issue temporarily. Didn't user the laptop much after that, but so far, so good. Will check it again later this week and report here
