Looking for connector pin orientation for replacement Laptop Battery, HP# 761230-005 or model HSTNN-LB6L --

System:  HP Envy x360 laptop u483cl

Connector from battery can be inserted 2 ways.  Board pins are labeled 1 to 10.  Connector has no label and no distinct orientation.

ANSWER:   The HP battery model HSTNN-LB6L, # 761230-005 for the HP Envy x360 model u483cl has a white 10-pin flat male connector that slides into the mother board female socket.  The original battery and most 3rd party replacements have color-coded wires.  The correct orientation of the battery plug, looking from above (after you remove the keyboard panel) is:  black, black, green, red, red, red, white, blue, yellow, black.  The key is the double black to the left.  Technically, the white male plug has an almost microscopic notch on the outside tab to the left of the two black wires.  It goes on the Pin #1 (left as you look from above) side.  Pin #10 is identified on the mother board, but you need to LOOK for it (right side of socket as viewed from above).  None of this is documented any where that I could find, and battery suppliers don't know the proper orientation, either.  Here's the good news:  some engineer was smart enough to wire the plug so that no battery power gets to the mother board if you insert the plug the wrong way - YEAH!   Be very cautious about static electricity, and COUNT the screws on the back side of the HP Envy 15" x360 - you should undo FOURTEEN (14).  Use plastic wedge tools intended for the purpose to separate the keyboard panel from the case bottom, and if part of it won't open, look for the screws you missed under rubber feet or sticky tabs that hide screws.   Let's all ask HP to do better documentation, and include SPECIFIC instructions in online manuals and with replacement batteries!
