Hello,
I just bought an Omen 17 for my office. This laptop is going to spend the majority of its lifetime plugged in and not using battery power except for a few times when I'm going to use it away from the office. Around 3-4 days per month that is.
So, I've read that laptop battery is ruined over time if you have the laptop plugged in all the time and I'm planning to remove the battery to prevent this.
Can anyone offer me any advice as to how to properly store my laptop battery to keep it safe and sound? Should I fully charge and remove it? Keep it 50%? What's the recommended way to do this?
Thanks in advance,
Vasilis

It should not have happened to your Sony Vaio even 7 years ago. That Model number is not right but I confirmed all current 17 inch Omens have an internal battery so not removeable anyway.

I am not sure which model you have but most of the Omens currently for sale have an internal battery. Please don't open the chassis and remove the battery. There is a lot of "urban myth" information on laptop batteries out there that has persisted despite technological advances. You do not need to sweat it. Modern Lithium-ion batteries are smart. They will not overcharge and they have no memory effect and they are not ruined by being installed in a laptop that is primarily used as a static workstation. The only thing to avoid is discharging the battery below about 15%. They don't like that.

Model is Omen 17 -ann009nv . I just bought it, don't even know where the battery is yet, didn't even occured to me that the battery may not be able to be removed at all. 😄
In any case, based on your answer, I don't really have to worry about my battery life even if I'm going to be leaving the laptop plugged in for 95% of its lifetime right?
My previous SONY VAIO (7 years old!) battery became completely useless after a few months I left it connected all the time while the laptop was plugged in and I was worried that the same thing is going to happen to this one too. I guess technology advances made this kind of thing irrelevant?
Thank you,
