HP Omen Laptop - 2+ years old.
Charger stopped charging and now the battery is dead. I can't boot it up. I used a voltmeter on the charger and I'm getting a reading of 22v. When I plug it into the laptop, the orange light next to the port comes on and then goes off immediately. Wiggling gently does not produce the light again or any changes. I could buy another charger, but if I'm getting a reading from this one, could it still be bad?
Thanks!

OMEN Model 15-CE015Dx _ I was expecting a reading of Zero or 19.5, but it is definitely showing 22. The charger is the one that came with the laptop new, but the specification markings have rubbed off. Is that too high and maybe an internal circuit breaker is protecting the laptop?
Thank you!

There unfortunately is no internal circuit breaker. I just know 22v is not right but I would expect the laptop to start even on an overvolt adapter as long as the plug is the right size and polarity is correct, but its a bad idea to run it on an overvolted power supply.

I'm an amateur in electrics but from what i'm reading here is that the battery tells the functional charger that it can't take any charger due to internal fault.
Remove the battery and plug in the charger. If it starts buy a new battery, if it doesn't buy a charger.

Thank you. I removed the battery, placed the backing back on and plugged in the power cord and nothing happened. I'm going to buy a new power cord, but I have a problem. All the markings are gone from the power cord and I don't know the part number. Per the HP Parts Website, My model has two options for power dependant on something called Nvidia. The options are:
1) 200-W Smart AC adapter (using 4.5 mm plug) with localized cable plug support, for use only on models equipped with the Nvidia N17E GPU
OR
2) 150-W Smart AC adapter (using 4.5 mm plug) with localized cable plug support, for use only on models equipped with the Nvidia N17P or AMD R17M GPUs
I have Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 - it's not listed. Which one do I buy?

nVidia N17P = GTX1050. Specs say your laptop originally came with a 150W adapter.
For use only on computer models equipped with an Nvidia N17P 917649-850
