The display on my laptop is not working, and I suspect it might be due to a BIOS update failure. I received a CMOS Reset (502) error on startup. After restarting, the screen either goes blank or shows recovery options, but Windows doesn’t load correctly. I have tried restarting multiple times and accessed advanced recovery options without success. I am unsure if the internal display is faulty or if this is related to the BIOS. No recent hardware changes were made. I need help resolving this issue and recovering my data if necessary.

Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
- Hard Reset: Power off your laptop. Unplug it from the charger and remove the battery (if possible). Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds. Reconnect the battery and charger, then power it on again.
- Check for External Display: Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV. If it displays, your internal screen might be faulty.
- Reset BIOS/CMOS: If the CMOS error persists, try resetting the BIOS by turning off the laptop, removing the battery, and pressing the power button for 15 seconds. This can reset the BIOS settings.
- Boot into Safe Mode: If you see recovery options, try booting into Safe Mode. This may allow you to load Windows without the display issue.
- Update or Restore BIOS: If possible, visit HP’s website to download and reinstall the BIOS update or restore it to the previous version. Use a USB drive to perform this if the display is completely unresponsive.
- System Restore: If you can access the recovery options, try a System Restore to return Windows to a previous working state.
- Check Internal Hardware: If the above doesn’t work, the screen might be physically damaged, or there may be an internal connection issue. Consider contacting HP support.
- Data Recovery: If Windows doesn’t load, you may need to remove the hard drive and connect it to another computer to recover your data.
I hope these steps help resolve the issue
