@AndreasMS, Hi there, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

If your HP OmniBook laptop only starts when plugged in and won’t power on using battery alone, here are some steps to help diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Battery Health

  • Plug in your laptop and turn it on.
  • Open HP Support Assistant (pre-installed on most HP laptops) or download it from HP Support Assistant - HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
  • Go to Battery Check under the “My PC” tab.
  • Run the battery diagnostics to see if the battery is functioning properly.

Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes residual charge can cause power issues.

  • Disconnect the AC adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter and try powering on without pressing any keys.
  • Then shut down, unplug the adapter, and try powering on using battery alone.

Inspect Battery Connection

  • If you're comfortable opening the laptop:
    • Power off and unplug the laptop.
    • Remove the back panel and check if the battery is securely connected.
    • Look for any signs of damage or swelling.

If you're unsure, it's best to have a technician inspect it.

Update BIOS and Drivers

If diagnostics show the battery is faulty or if the laptop is older, the battery may need replacement.
