My laptop has a bad overheating issue when gaming. I mostly only play small games like Roblox, and this issue occurs. It causes my laptop's battery to die much quicker than what it's supposed too as well. The game runs well and without lag and high frame rate, but overheating is very noticeable and alarming. It's processor the Intel Core I5, is more than enough to run the small games, But I want to know if the if the overheating of the CPU is normal or not.

Hi @Rauru ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Overheating in a laptop, especially during gaming, can be a common issue. However, excessive overheating is not normal and can lead to performance degradation and potential long-term damage to your laptop components. Here are steps you can take to address the overheating issue:

Check for Dust: Over time, dust can accumulate in the laptop's cooling system, hindering airflow and causing overheating. Use compressed air to clean the vents and cooling fans. Ensure that the laptop is turned off and unplugged before cleaning.

Cooling Pad: Consider using a cooling pad to provide additional cooling. These pads often have built-in fans that help dissipate heat and keep your laptop cooler during extended gaming sessions.

Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up-to-date. Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes lead to overheating issues. Visit the official Intel website to download the latest graphics drivers for your Intel Core i5 processor.

Power Settings: Adjust your power settings to prioritize cooling over performance. In Windows 11, you can do this by going to "Settings" > "System" > "Power & sleep" > "Additional power settings." Choose a power plan that emphasizes cooling or create a custom plan with lower performance settings.

BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there's a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop.

Monitor Temperatures: Use monitoring software to check the temperature of your CPU and GPU during gaming. If the temperatures are consistently too high (above 80-90 degrees Celsius), it indicates a cooling problem.

Optimize In-Game Settings: While your laptop may be capable of running games smoothly, consider lowering some in-game settings such as graphics quality and resolution to reduce the workload on your CPU and GPU, leading to lower temperatures.

Check Background Processes: Make sure there are no unnecessary background processes consuming resources while gaming. Close any unnecessary applications and disable unnecessary startup programs.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
