Hello,
I am experiencing a serious issue with my HP laptop. The device randomly shuts down when I try to launch certain games such as Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Crusader Kings 3. The shutdown usually happens during the loading screen.
Here are the details:
CPU temperature reaches around 60–70°C even when idle.
CPU voltage shows around 1.45V in HWMonitor.
I have already downgraded the BIOS to version F.25.
I reset the BIOS settings to default.
Chipset and GPU drivers are up to date.
Windows is running in High Performance mode.
HP Command Center is set to Performance mode.
Despite all of this, the issue still continues. Could you please help me identify whether this is a software issue or a hardware defect?
My system specifications:
Model: HP Victus 16
Operating System: Windows 11 Pro 64-bit
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS with Radeon 760M Graphics
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4060 Laptop GPU
RAM: 16 GB (2x8GB Samsung 5600MHz)
Storage: 512 GB SSD
BIOS Version: F.26
Thank you for your support.
Best regards,
Mert

I suspect you may have higher expectations of your laptop than you should.
Try lowering the resolution and performance of your laptop prior to running the games to see how much of a difference it makes.
You can go to the Can You Run it website, find your games and see if your laptop has the capability to run them.

Thank you for your suggestion, but I am using a laptop with an RTX 4060 GPU, 16 GB of RAM, and a modern CPU. My system exceeds the recommended requirements for these games.
The issue I’m experiencing is most likely hardware-related — possibly due to overheating or a BIOS/firmware problem — as the laptop shuts down during the loading screen of certain games.
This doesn’t happen every time. Sometimes I can launch and play the games without any issue after turning on the laptop. However, the random shutdown problem still occurs from time to time

A laptop does not equate with a gaming desktop PC in any way. 16GB is not really that much memory
If you are looking for help, we are here for that.
Try running the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tests to see if there is an issue.
I still suggest lowering the performance settings on those particular games for troubleshooting.

Thank you for your response.
I understand that laptops are generally not on par with gaming desktops, but I believe my configuration should be more than enough to run these games. I’m using an HP Victus 16 with an AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS processor, 16 GB of 5600MHz RAM, and an NVIDIA RTX 4060 Laptop GPU.
These shutdowns happen not during gameplay, but at the loading screens — which suggests that the issue is likely not due to performance limits.
I have already tried lowering the resolution and graphics settings, but the shutdown still occurs randomly.
I also ran HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI (both quick and extensive), and no hardware problems were found.
Since the BIOS version is currently F.26, I’m considering whether it could be firmware-related.
I’d appreciate any further help or insight you can offer.

The issue could also be bugs in the game software coding.
That is not uncommon at all.
Check the game websites and look for updates.

I’ve been experiencing a recurring issue with my HP Victus laptop (Ryzen 5 7640HS, 16 GB RAM, RTX 4060, BIOS version F.26). Occasionally, while launching games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 or Crusader Kings 3, the system suddenly restarts during the loading screen. This does not happen every time, but when it does, there is no warning—just a sudden reboot.
After some testing, I noticed a pattern:
These restarts seem to occur more frequently after the laptop wakes from sleep mode.
I’ve also encountered issues where the device fails to enter or exit sleep mode properly. Sometimes, it returns to the lock screen instead of sleeping. Other times, it won’t wake at all, and I must force shutdown using the power button.
I suspect this might be linked to power management or ACPI issues.
To troubleshoot, I:
Used DDU to completely uninstall both AMD and NVIDIA graphics drivers.
Performed a clean installation of the latest drivers.
Reset BIOS settings to default.
Checked for abnormal temperatures — but the system does not seem to be overheating.
Despite these steps, the issue still occurs. I’m wondering if there may be compatibility problems with the current BIOS version (F.26) or Windows 11’s Modern Standby implementation.
I would appreciate your help in identifying whether this is a hardware or firmware-related problem, and whether there is an updated fix or workaround.

"Performed a clean installation of the latest drivers"
I hope you are aware that only the specially coded drivers, not those directly from NVIDIA or AMD, from the support portal for your laptop will allow the discrete graphics solution to operate as expected.

Hello,
Thank you again for your support. I would like to update you on the current state of the issue.
Even after performing a clean installation of Windows along with all drivers (including chipset and GPU drivers), the problem still persists. The system runs normally during general use, but when I try to launch a game after waking the laptop from sleep mode, the system suddenly shuts down or restarts during the game's loading screen.
I disabled Fast Startup and updated the BIOS to version F.26, but it didn’t resolve the issue either. I've observed that this problem only happens after waking the laptop from sleep mode — if I launch a game before putting the laptop to sleep, everything works fine, even after multiple attempts.
Additionally, right before the crash, I’ve noticed a Kernel-PnP warning related to the GPU in the Event Viewer.
Do you still recommend using the GPU driver from the HP support portal instead of the latest one from AMD/NVIDIA? Or could this indicate a possible hardware issue?
Thank you again for your continued assistance.
