Hi,

Before now, my laptop, HP, HQ-TRE, would usually give both "Low battery" AND "critical battery" notifications but it doesn't do that anymore.

I have gone through a lot of the other posts in the community describing the same problem.

I have gone through the advanced battery settings options and even reset them to default AND reset the low battery and critical battery options to both notify and "do nothing" as actions but it still shuts down at around  50% WITHOUT warning.

I have just tried to "Test the battery before windows starts", but I cannot find the "Component Tests" function in the menu that pops up after following the instructions.

How do I proceed from here please?

Thank you.

P.S: I have attached a picture of the landing page from attempting to run the test.

Hello @DrRubie

Do the following trick ...

(1) Open the windows <device manager> and uninstall "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery

- Right click on "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery"

- Click "Uninstall device"

- Confirm your choice if you see a popup notification

(2Shutdown notebook

(3) Disconnect charger, press and hold power button for 30 seconds.

(4) Start notebook

Enter BIOS

- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds

- Turn on the computer, and then immediately press the [ESC] key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens

- Press [F10] to open the BIOS Setup Utility or [F2] to open HP Diagnostics

===>>> let it stay there or run HP Diagnostic Test loops to drain battery (don't start windows operating system AND don't connect charger !) until it is switching off automatically !

Note: If you unexpectedly started Windows, you have to repeat (1) (2) (3)

(5) Plugin charger and wait until battery is fully charged (don't start windows operating system !) and check charging led.

(6) If you do have no charging led, wait at least 2 hours ...

(7) Start notebook and log in to windows. Now windows acpi battery device and battery management system are synchronized. It should show 98-100% battery level.

(8) If battery level is too low and it's loosing capacity too fast, it has to be replaced !

Hello @DrRubie

Sorry to hear that you are having problems ...

To help you I need to know the product number (p/n) of your notebook !

You will find this information on the back/rear of your notebook in small alphanumeric letters.

The product number (p/n) is legally allowed information about the computer. This is not sensitive data.

It is allowed to publish it in public.

Hi @Ub6424,

Thank you so much for your kind words and swift response.

Laptop Name: HP HQ-TRE 71025

Model: 15-raO11nia

ProdID: 4US68EA#BH5

I hope these are helpful. I couldn't do the other thing because I don't know what a "winkey" is. 😬

Thank you!!!

Hi,

I have downloaded and installed the update as directed but when I try to run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI on starting the computer it still shows me the same options as before, i.e. minus the "Component Test and System Tests".

Searching for it on the laptop also doesn't yield any result.

When I go to manually launch it from my "Downloads Folder" and "run as administrator" it just keeps taking me to the pop ups for installing the app which I have done multiple times now, up to the click "Finish" stage.

Do you have any ideas as to why the app is refusing to "launch"?

When I was installing the app the very first time it recommended that I install it on a specified section created for that purpose on the hard drive. That was the only thing I did differently from your exact instructions.

Thank you.

I also restarted and shut down and started up the laptop several times incase it was required for new apps to take effect.
