Common problems for Battery

I have noticed a problem while gaming on my laptop. The game starts without problems, and for a few minutes, everything runs smoothly (or about as smooth things get on Integrated Graphics). After a while, the laptop turns off without warning. There are no error messages, and no shut down message, just a laptop without power.

Almost every time, the laptop was plugged in, in order to maximise performance. However, when I suspected that to be the reason, I tried to game on battery. Again, the laptop turned off about 10 minutes into the game.

However, the most troubling problem is that the laptop wouldn't start when I press the power button. I have to go through the entire process of dumping flea power (sometimes several times) until the laptop boots again.

If it's any help, I'm using an i3-4005 U with Intel HD 4400 Integrated, and 4GB of Ram.

Thank You

Regards

Randromeda

The kneejerk response would be that it is a heating problem. Have you tried blowing out the cooling fan? Stick a paperclip inside the grille to hold the fan blades from spinning out of control and blast in some compressed air. If a lot of dirt flies out we nay have found the problem.

I do not have access to Compressed Air, and there is no place around for me to buy one. Amazon does not deliver here either.

And I am not going to vaccum the air out.

Any alternatives?

Take it apart and manually clean it out and apply new thermal compound. Its worth doing on a laptop of that age regardless but does require some tech skills.

If you want a Manual and perhaps video instructions post back. I can only guess where you might live such that there is no Office Store.

Before taking drastic actions, I just want to verify something.

A few weeks ago, I was playing a demanding game, and while I was getting decent performance, I noticed that the laptop was runnning quite hot. As a result, it was plugged in, but not charging. This was caused due to the high temperature at which my laptop was running.

To solve this, I installed SpeedFan, and changed some settings, so that the maximum temperature achieved was lower than the default. I then stopped gaming for a few weeks due to exams.

Is it possible, that, since the laptop can not run that game without getting to a temperature of ~55 C, and the fans are not poweful enough to get the temp down to ~45 C (the max temperature that I set), SpeedFan decides to turn off the laptop instead of a hardware failure (considering SpeedFan has admin permissions) ?

Thanks

Update:

I tried gaming again, and I got the same result. I then gave up and put my laptop aside for a while.

About 30 minutes later, it magically decides to boot, without me even touching it.

Any idea why a poltergeist has posessed this potato that I call a laptop?

Thanks

I think possibly it is sleeping and not actually turned off. Also 45 degrees is a very low maximum...more like 65 degrees.

I'm quite sure that the laptop was not sleeping.

Although I did not try to turn it on, the led blinks when the laptop is asleep which was not happening.

I'll try to set the desired temperature at 65 in SpeedFan and set the warning at 90 and try again.

Warning a little lower like 80 not 90

I don't think speedfan will shut down the computer without you configuring that as an event, however.

I would not make it shut down anywhere below say 85 degrees.

I'll do this and get back to you by tomorrow.
