Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?
HP Recommended
Pavilion ab035ax
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • My laptop does not charge the battery while plugged in, even though the charging indicator shows orange (charging). Never when the laptop is being used. And only sometimes, when the laptop is in off state.
  • I tried turning off, removing battery, holding the power button for 10s and restarting. Previously, it worked rarely and randomly. Now it doesn't at all.
  • If I left everything turned off for at least few hours it starts charging again. This method works every time without fail. Only difference now (compared to 2 months before) is it used to charge for sometime even while being used. Now it only gets charged till I turn it on.
  • Using the laptop without the battery also give the same result: Doesn't take power after a shutdown. The charging indicator just turns on for some time in white color and then goes off immediately.
  • I had tried uninstalling the acpi compliant driver in device manager and this immediately started charging the battery. Charging indicator shows plugged in (orange) all the time. I had to reinstall the drivers to see that the charge had increased. But the problem would come back randomly some other time I turn on and start using my computer.
  • I had bought a new hp battery, but the issue is still there. Hp diagnostics software showed that AC adaptor passed the test, even while laptop wasn't accepting charge. Nowadays, uninstalling the acpi battery drivers also doesn't start the charging process. The issue only worsens day by day.
  • Present situation: I have to shutdown, leave the laptop off and unplug everything (without removing and reinserting the battery) and leave it for few hours. Then the laptop will charge the battery if you connect it to adaptor and leave it off. As soon as I start the laptop, it stops charging. Also, removing the battery holding the power button for a minute and starting again also doesn't work now.
  • Steps tried other than above mentioned: I also tried using other electrical sockets. Reinstalled windows. Tried using ubuntu.
  • My bios was updated to its latest version F.54.revA just before the problems started showing. I tried to rollback or downgrade to the previous version F.45.revA, but hp doesn't allow downgrading.
  • Can anyone tell the reason for this? And a way to escalate this to demand HPs solution?
  • I'm going through an important phase of my life, applying for programs and all correspondence have to be done online including interviews and applications and reading. HP has really put me in a very bad situation as I'm managing with smartphone and limited use per day. My interviews and exams are near and I don't know what to do.
  • As far as I know, this problem has become very common with hp laptops and the issue is not with the battery. Either some power management thing or driver issue or bios or hardware fault. But this problem is rampant even in new laptops means its HPs fault. And they are still not addressing the issue, which is really a disgrace.

I think I have solved the problem for now. I haven't faced the issue for a week now. I wasn't able to pin point the reason, and I had already spent much time on it without success. Certainly, its not hardware-related.

I did a multi-pronged approach as a last resort: Full Windows 10 reinstall (version 2002) followed by updating BIOS once again with the same firmware F,54revA .  The charging problem was still there, but after I ran driver+windows update through windows update, the problem is gone. My battery stays at 100% all the time. I haven't tried discharging it and plugging in (I'm having a lot work to do and not in a time to welcome the problem again). And this time, I haven't installed HP power profile update (ENERGY STAR) executable and HP coolsense or any other except,

So, it seems either a BIOS or driver or configuration issue.

It was not an easy way to solve this: Backup, Reinstall and again restoring apps, settings and files; nor straightforward way to find out the cause.

@Praveen196

No chat or phone support. Warranty period is over.

I had tried all automated HP support solutions too: Support assistant, UEFI diagnostics. None could spot the error.
