I did an update recently and ever since, every time I start up i have a counterfeit battery warning come up. I am not tech savvy in the slightest and wouldn't even know how to access the battery to change it. Nothing has been changed on my laptop since I've had it so i don't understand why it's suddenly coming up with this warning. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi @Jazmatazz
Thanks for sharing the details.
I understand that you are having issues with battery counterfeit error.
If your HP Laptop 15s-fq4006na is showing a "battery counterfeit" error, it typically indicates that the laptop's system has detected an issue with the battery, either due to the use of a non-genuine or third-party battery or a false positive error in the battery detection.
Here's what you can do to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check Battery Authenticity
- Genuine HP Battery: Make sure the battery installed in your laptop is a genuine HP battery. Third-party or counterfeit batteries may trigger this error.
- If you've recently replaced the battery, confirm that it was purchased from a legitimate source. Using genuine HP parts ensures compatibility and prevents potential issues.
- If you're unsure, contact the seller or HP support to verify the authenticity of the battery.
2. Update BIOS and Battery Firmware
- Outdated BIOS: Sometimes, an outdated BIOS can misidentify a genuine battery as counterfeit. Ensure your laptop's BIOS is up to date. You can check for BIOS updates on the HP Support page.
- Battery Firmware Update: Check if there are any battery firmware updates available. Some firmware updates include fixes for issues like false counterfeit errors.
Steps to update BIOS:
- Go to the HP Support page.
- Search for your laptop model: HP Laptop 15s-fq4006na.
- Download and install the latest BIOS and any available firmware updates.
3. Run HP Diagnostics
- HP PC Hardware Diagnostics: You can use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to test the battery and identify the exact issue.
- Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to open the Diagnostics menu.
- Run the Battery Test to check the status of your battery.
- This will give you a detailed report on the battery's health and whether there is an actual problem or a false detection.
4. Hard Reset Your Laptop
- Sometimes, a false error can be caused by system memory glitches. Performing a hard reset may help resolve it.
- Shut down your laptop.
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery if it's removable.
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual charge.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then restart your laptop.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @Jazmatazz,
Please find the remaining steps below.
5. Reinstall Battery Drivers
- Corrupt drivers could also be the cause of this issue. Reinstalling the battery drivers may help resolve it.
- Open Device Manager (Press Windows + X > select Device Manager).
- Expand the Batteries section.
- Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop, and Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.
6. Check for Battery Placement and Connections
- If the battery is not seated correctly, it could cause detection issues. Ensure that the battery is securely connected to the laptop.
7. Battery Replacement
- If your battery is indeed counterfeit or non-functional, you may need to replace it with a new, genuine HP battery. You can order a replacement directly from HP or a verified retailer.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the "battery counterfeit" error.
If the issue persists and you're using a genuine HP battery, it's best to contact HP PhoneSupport for further assistance.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
