Good day all.
I have a dead laptop battery, but my laptop can still work when it's plugged in. The computer cannot recognize the battery which says 0%. I took it over to Best Buy and they confirmed it was a dead battery, and now my laptop is just basically a desktop
I'm actually someone who does Not carry their laptop around and I basically use it as a desktop anyway.
I assume it is okay to be used when plugged in. Should I replace the battery anyway? If I don't need to replace it, should I remove the battery from the laptop?
Any help would be appreciated. As mentioned, I'm just someone who really uses the laptop on my desk and don't really have to carry it anywhere. And even if I did, I'd likely be using it plugged in somewhere anyway.
This laptop is only a year old. I told him I usually just let my PC charge and there was a period where I didn't use it for a while. The Best Buy rep told me the battery likely died from being left in basically 24/7 without the laptop being used.
Unfortunately, my warranty just expired. However there seems to be some confusion when I am selecting my product. When I enter in my serial and product number, it detects this as a 15s-fq2000. However, the actual model number is 15-dy2193dx.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand that the battery in the notebook is not charging, I am glad to assist you.
Yes, you can use the notebook when it is plugged in.
However, follow these steps to check the functionality of the battery.
Performing a test on the Hard drive as well as on the Memory from the Hardware diagnostics:
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F2 once for System Diagnostics.
4) Go to Component test.
5) Run extensive Memory and Hard Drive test.
Keep me posted.
To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.
Cheers.
