During heavy GPU loading the battery level drops down to 0% even if the charger is connected.

I am suspecting the 65W charger initially provided with the laptop is not powerfull enough.

Is it safe to use larger 90W capacity HP charger with this laptop?

I think the NVIDIA MX250 GPU is drawing a lot of power during the GPU task.

Is it possible to updgrade here MX330, MX350, MX450 or MX550 GPU into this laptop?

Hello Jarkky,

this indicates that the internal resistance of the battery is higher and the battery is aged by many charging cycles.

=> I recommend you to replace the battery

>Is it safe to use larger 90W capacity HP charger with this laptop?

Yes, the correct output voltage (V) and current (A) of the power supply must be maintained.

Please report your results.

ok. So I hope 90W power is safe and now I started to get error messages:

Hello Jarkky,

you wrote:

I would first try to solve the basic problems with the device.
Question 1) What Linux distro and kernel version are you using ?
Question 2) What nvidia gfx driver and version is installed ?

NVIDIA-SMI 515.48.07 Driver Version: 515.48.07 CUDA Version: 11.7

Question 3) What is the website and URL from where you downloaded this driver ?

Please report your results.

But I think there is not enoug cooling, because GPU seems to use same fan with the CPU through the heatpipe:

It could require separate fan for the GPU, not sure what would be most efficient.

Hello Jarkky,

the cooling design is predetermined by the manufacturer and difficult to change. thermal paste for CPU GPU and bridges should be renewed. Furthermore, the function of the fan must be checked. General cleaning ...

I think they had removed the content. What result you want to know?

Please refer to the below discussion:

It looks like possible that I have "defective Geforce MX250 GPU", maybe already defective as a new,

but not noticed earlier, so no more warranty to fix it.

What is the method to prove that the GPU actually is defective in such way that it makes high power consumption during heavy GPU load?

Or maybe this MX250 model is too old model with lower efficiency.

Soon after the GPU load starts the GPU drop out from the bus or something happens:

GPU 00000000:02:00.0: Detected Critical Xid Error

Also I noticed that after the heavy duty GPU use the batter dropped to somecases to 70% and it stopped charging,

even the OS says it is charging the battery.

Then if I disconnected the power plug from the laptop and plugged it back to the 19.5V power it started to charge

again slowly towards 100%.

So it looks like the laptop internal battery manager is gone crazy and will fix only by disconnecting the laptop from

the external power momentarily.

Hello @jarkky

>ok. So I hope 90W power is safe

Do you use the 90W power supply now ?

best regards
