Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?
HP Recommended
Pavilion 15-au620tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop battery is not charging beyond 43%. (upto this percent it charges fine)

Issue arising from last 25 days.

I did a battery check using the HP battery check which suggested me to calibrate the battery. SInce my pc was not charging 100%, so I performed the calibration on 57%.

HP battery check says the full charge capacity is 3296 mAh.

It did not solve the problem. It suggests to calibrate again.

I also tried uninstalling the battery drivers. did not work.

Then I contacted microsoft team having thought that there is some software issue.

They performed a system rest cleaning the C drive and reinstalling windows. Did not work.

My battery was draining very fast early but post the windows reset it seems to be giving power time of approx 1 hr.

The Hp hardware diagnostic tool also suggest battery calibration again (having done it previously as mentioned above)

but I am unable to perform it as battery does not charge to its full capacity.

My charging adapter passed the HP diagnostic test.

I have also tries charging my pc with another charger of same rating but it also did not charge it beyond certain percent

I also generated a battery report which says full charge  battery capacity to be 25379 mWh.

I reinstalled windows again and downloaded all HP softwares and drivers.

I have updated all the drivers and also the BIOS.

But nothing seems to be working.

Since i have a non removable battery so could not remove and reinsert the battery as suggested in my solutions to battery problems.

@shiv_sh

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.

2. Expand batteries.

3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.

4. Shut down the computer.

5. Disconnect the charger.

6. Remove the battery.

7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.

8. Insert the battery only.

9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I appreciate your response @Echo_Lake.

As i had mentioned in my question earlier that i have a non removable battery, so the steps mentioned by you do not exactly apply in my case.

I tried power resetting my computer using the steps provide on Hp website while also uninstalling the ACPI driver.( outcomes of which i have specified at the last part of this reply).

What i have come to know is my battery is alright and the pc is not gauging it correctly.

I created a custom power plan in  which I changed the " Critical battery action " to "sleep". Then I let my pc discharge entirely until the battery level reaches 5% ( which is the critical battery level) and  my pc goes to sleep.

Then I wake my pc from sleep without putting it on AC  power.

Here comes the surprise. My pc went on running on battery power for almost 1.5 hours at the zero battery level.

This implies that my battery had remaining power and the pc was showing wrong battery levels and taking actions accordingly.

Then i drained my battery entirely until the pc went to shut down on its own. Then i recharged my battery. And to my expectation it did charge to a 100%. (which i guess was a manual calibration of the battery).

But just to be sure of correct calibration I performed a battery calibration using the Hp UEFI diagnostics extensive memory test _ loop until error.( as mentioned on HP support website)

The test lasted only for 1 hr 15 min without draining the entire battery ( I know this because once I started my pc again, chose my custom power plan to check if the battery was completely drained, and it again went on running for about an hour on zero battery level).

But here comes the real problem, it did charge 100% but only once.

Post that the charging  stagnates at a lower and lower battery level for every next cycle of recharge.

Also power resetting my pc also allowed me to attain a 100% charge level once and post that also similar trend of lower and lower battery levels on next recharge cycles were observed

My AC adaptor and battery pass the HP diagnostic test.

I request you to read the reply entirely before suggesting further steps.

@shiv_sh,

What is the BIOS version installed on your computer?

BIOS version : F.52 Rev.A (latest one available for my pc)

Also i have observed a weird trend. Every time I try to calibrate my battery and then run the HP battery check or generate a battery report, it show the remaining capacity of my battery 200mah lesser than the previous one. I have tried calibrating my battery twice or thrice in the recent days and have observed a drastic drop in the remaining battery capacity.

Is my battery really disintegrating so fast or the test is showing wrong results.

Kindly look into this.

@shiv_sh,

Thank you for the information.

I recommend you restore the BIOS defaults following the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

I did a BIOS restore to defaults but it did not solve the problem.

But what i see now is after manually calibrating my pc the power stagnation point has shifted to 84%.

Should I try manual calibration one more time.

And also kindly answer this question.

I have observed a weird trend. Every time I try to calibrate my battery and then run the HP battery check or generate a battery report, it show the remaining capacity of my battery 200mAh lesser than the capacity shown during last calibration. I have tried calibrating my battery twice or thrice in the recent days and have observed a drastic drop in the remaining battery capacity.

@shiv_sh

This seems like a hardware issue with the battery, please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
