Hi, I broke my laptop screen, so removed it and disconnected the internal cable connection to the screen. But now, my laptop's built-in keyboard and touchpad stopped working. I was able to connect the external keyboard, mouse, and monitor. 

When I looked, at the device manager I found "I2C HID device" error. Tried uninstalling and installing again and updating the driver but did not work. Then, I connected the screen cable and restarted the system. Both the built-in keyboard and mouse worked. I removed it again in order to reproduce the issue and was successful in reproducing the issue and found built-in keyboard & mouse stopped working again. I tried re-installing the keyboard device in the device manager but it did not help. Now even after installing the screen, the built-in keyboard, and the mouse are not working. 

 

How can this be fixed? I'd like to use my laptop with an external monitor but built-in keyboard. 

 

Here is the event log of I2C HID device error :

I see that you are facing an issue with your Laptop.

 

Kindly refer to the steps on this link to troubleshoot keyboard issue.

 

Refer to the steps on this link to troubleshoot touchpad issue.

(If the test fails there is an issue with the hardware and you can skip the below troubleshooting steps)

 

Refer to the steps on this link to update the BIOS and let me know if that resolves the issue.

 

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

 

Please install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps.

go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.
