I am having an issue with charging my laptop.
When the laptop is powered OFF
-Charger light glows orange and laptop is charging
When the laptop is powered ON
-The charging light immediately goes solid white
-The laptop doesn't show any indication in tray icon that there is a cable plugged in
I have tried powering down by holding button for 12 seconds whilst cable is unplugged, plugging the cable back together then reinserting, removing/reinstalling battery, reinstalling drivers etc.
*Note - When I removed the battery and connected the cable, the charger light glowed orange, but when the power button was pressed there was no response and laptop wouldn't power on at all.
Extremely annoying as I am using my laptop with a DAW so the full charge does NOT last.
Suggestions very much welcome, thank you!!

Hi @MMACPH,
I'd like to help!
Try the below suggestions-
Measure the battery duration in Safe Mode
Some applications that operate in Windows consume more battery power than others. If your battery seems to lose power too fast, determine how long the battery holds a charge when operating in Safe Mode and compare that time to the normal duration of the charge when operating a Window's program.
-
Connect your AC power adapter and completely charge the notebook battery.
-
Press the Power button to restart the computer, and press the F8 key when the HP or Compaq logo appears. Select Safe Mode from the Startup Menu by using the arrow keys.
NOTE:
On some models that use UEFI instead of BIOS, no HP or Compaq logo displays during start up. If you are required to press key in the beginning stages of start up (when the logo normally appears on other models), do so as soon as the notebook starts. There may also be a text message that prompts you to press a specified key when the message appears.
-
When Safe Mode appears, disconnect the AC power adapter from the notebook.
-
Measure the total length of time the battery can power the PC in Safe Mode.
-
When the PC stops operating, recharge the battery as shown in step 1, and restart in normal Windows to compare the battery duration.
If the difference in time is significant (30 minutes or greater) there may be unnecessary battery consumption in Windows. A large difference in discharge times could be caused by the application currently in use, or by an unneeded application running in the background.
Refresh the Windows power management
Windows power management controls the battery usage for your notebook PC. Reinstall power management by following these steps.
-
Connect the AC power adapter to the notebook then remove the battery.
-
Press the Power button to restart the computer, and press the F8 key when the HP or Compaq logo appears.
-
In Safe Mode, click Start then right-click My Computer. Select Properties from the list.
-
Click the Hardware tab then click the Device Manager button.
- If the PC has ACPI buttons, click the plus sign next to System Devices. Remove the listings for ACPI Power Button and ACPI System Button.
- If the PC has a listing for Advanced Power Management Support feature, you will need to remove all listings for Advanced Power Management Support.
-
When selecting and deleting an item, Windows will prompt you to restart the PC.
-
During the restart, Windows will reinstall the needed ACPI drivers. If a prompt for the Windows Operating System CD appears, select Specify Location then type C: to allow Windows to locate the necessary drivers.
NOTE:
If multiple ACPI drivers were removed, it may be necessary to restart the notebook more than once to make sure the drivers are properly reinstalled.
-
After the devices are reinstalled, turn the notebook off and reinsert the battery. Test again to see if the battery charges more efficiently.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
