I replaced my HD after my granddaughter spilled water next to the computer and it went into the vents next to HD and fried it. Main board did not get wet. All keys work except for the following. This is what I get if I type the letter or number: 1q 2w 3e 4r 7u 8i 9o 0p. Tried a new keyboard, no change. Tried an external keyboard and it worked fine. I did not have a recovery disk so I had to download a file from HP and another file to create a flash drive media. Any thoughts?

@GregZ56 I reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:
Now this is a trade secret, not something most people would tell you, so personally you can either do this or run the hardware test, if it fails you could discuss your options on getting the device repaired/replaced via HP for a nominal fee (as accidental damages are not covered by the factory warranty).
Here goes nothing:
- If you have rice at your home/place,
- simply put your laptop under it for a day, leave the rice on top of the keyboard too (cover the keyboard with rice),
- the rice tends to absorb the moisture / liquid inside the keyboard and therefore resolving the issue and no, I'm not kidding...
- I resolved this issue when I jumped into the pool with my phone and it stopped working but miraculously leaving it under a bowl of rice for a day, resurrected my phone.
there you go, try it...and if you are not comfortable with it or for some reason it doesn't work:
I suggest you run a hardware test to ensure everything is fine, if the laptop is powering on and working, try the below steps:
Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
- Click Extensive Test.
- Click Run once, or Loop until error.
- While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.
If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.
P.S: Welcome to HP Community 😉
Keep me posted, as I (Or a trusted colleague) shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,
And your device is up and running again, only in case you don't get back to us, first!
That said, If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That'll help us, and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.
