Hi,

 

For the past few weeks my laptop has been shutting down unexpectedly. When I checked the battery before it shut down and after I turned it back on (plugged in) it was between 30 and 60%, however it fluctuates regularly. I searched my issue up online and it came up with battery calibration. I have downloaded HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows and run the battery check--it says it passed and does not need calibration. My laptop continued to shut down unexpectedly after the test so I followed HP's instructions for a manual calibration. My laptop continues to display false battery percentage and shuts down randomly. I have now set the low battery level to 50% so the low battery notification comes up then. However this is a temporary fix and would really like for my laptop of less then 2 years to start displaying the accurate battery percentage and not shut down unexpectedly. 

 

I would appreciate any help!

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

 

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • What is the exact model for your computer?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?

 

While I wait for the answers, I recommend you follow the below steps and check whether the issue is resolved.

 

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager.

 

Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”

Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”

Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.

Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”

Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.

 

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

 

If the issue persists, I recommend you update the bios the from the below link and test.

Hi,

 

I reinstalled Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and the issue persisted.

I'm not sure of the exact time my laptop functioned normally but it must have been ~2-3 weeks ago.

My model is : HP Notebook - 15-ay070tu

I'm not aware of any hardware/software changes made.

Did you update the BIOS on the computer? If no, then download and install it from the below link and test.

If you continue facing the issue, I recommend you perform a system restore back to the date when the computer was working fine.

I restored the BIOS and the issued persisted. I am now restoring the system, however I'm not sure the earliest time I could restore it to was before the issue began. The system has been restoring now for 1-2 hours, and I wasn't sure whether this was normal so I searched it up and found that Norton may interfere with the restoration process (I have Norton).

Restoring the system failed. It came up with "Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC". After this appeared I tried "Exit and continue to Windows 10", which just lead back to the same "Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC". I then tried shutting down and turning it back on which also failed. I'm hesitant to try anything else such as resetting or command prompt. My laptop is now unusable!

I recommend you perform a reset on the computer and check if it helps.

Hi again,

 

I have reset my laptop and everything seems in order. However, the issue with the battery percentage persists. Any more advice as it seems like nothing will work.

i have noticed similar thing on my x360

the battery 100% remaining for like 30 minutes of use.

then it would suddenly drop to like 93% and start working normally

 

im looking at it right now actually. it has been powered on for few hours and the battery still shows 100%
