Laptop does not recognize new battery, but will use it.

My laptop is a HP Spectre x360 convertible. The old battery started balloon so I bought a replacement (HP model KB06XL) but when I installed it and started up the computer would say "No battery detected".

Now here is the weird part, it may not detect the battery, but it will run off of it. I just have to make sure it is plugged in for the startup. If I remove the plug, it will then stay on while telling me it is unplugged and that no battery is present.

So, what is going on? Is there some sort of initialization I need to run to get my machine to recognize the new battery? I tried running the BIOS battery tests, but it still did not detect it (even though it was using it).

As far as I can tell, the replacement battery is identical.

Okay...

You're gonna laugh...

Apparently it is physically possible to insert the cable upside-down. The new battery ribbon connector was twisted the other way.

Yup... Been working on this problem off and on for a couple of months.
