Hi @Akin19,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there are two separate issues with your OMEN by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop.
Crashing After NVIDIA Driver Update
Since your laptop crashes after launching a game, it’s likely due to a driver conflict or overheating. Try these steps:
1. Roll Back or Clean Install the NVIDIA Driver
- Open Device Manager → Expand Display Adapters → Right-click on your NVIDIA GPU → Click Properties → Driver tab → Roll Back Driver (if available).
- If rollback isn’t available, do a clean installation:
- Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and boot into Safe Mode.
- Run DDU to remove all NVIDIA drivers.
- Reinstall the previous stable driver from NVIDIA’s official site.
2. Check OMEN Gaming Hub & Windows Updates
- Open OMEN Gaming Hub and check performance settings.
- Ensure Windows is up to date:
- Go to Settings → Windows Update → Install pending updates.
3. Monitor GPU Temperatures
- Use HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check GPU temps.
- If overheating occurs, try undervolting or increasing fan speed via OMEN Gaming Hub.
4. Disable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling
- Go to Settings → System → Display → Graphics Settings.
- Toggle "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling" OFF.

USB-C Port Disconnects When Touched
This sounds like a loose USB-C port or hardware issue. Try:
1. Check for Loose Connection
- Try different USB-C cables/devices to see if the issue persists.
- If the port feels loose or wobbly, it might be damaged.
2. Update USB Drivers
- Open Device Manager → Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
- Right-click USB Root Hub (USB-C) → Update driver.
3. Disable USB Power Management
- In Device Manager, right-click the USB device → Properties → Power Management tab.
- Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
4. Check BIOS & Firmware Updates
- Go to HP Support and check for any BIOS or firmware updates.
If the Issues Persist
If your laptop still crashes after rolling back the driver and your USB-C port is physically loose, it might need hardware repair. Since this happened after a driver update, try using a previous NVIDIA driver first before considering repair.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
