I am upgrading a HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 with larger M.2 storage and memory to 32GB from 8GB. The upgrade of the C drive M.2 went flawlessly but the memory, not so much. When I turn the machine on after putting in 16GB or 32GB of memory the machine powers on and just sits there. No messages of any kind. I have tried holding the ESC key and f10 key on startup to get some messages but the options don't work.
Any ideas on why this is happening and how to fix this? The command line tool says that 32GB should be supported. I am using Corsair 16GB-3200 memory. Supposed to be pretty good memory.

The 32 GB of memory isn't a problem.
Corsair makes many different models of DDR4-3200 memory.
If you bought Corsair performance or gaming memory, check the timing specs on the memory.
It has to be CL22 like the PNY memory is. If it is faster (less than CL22), then that is the cause of your dilemma.
Your notebook cannot adjust for the faster timing speeds, and you can't compensate for that by adjusting the memory timing/XMP profiles in the locked down BIOS.
You would probably be better off installing the same model PNY 16 GB memory as the 8 GB chip you installed, or the compatible Crucial equivalent.

It has a AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics (HP 15.6inch Laptop PC e-2000). The Corsair memory is DD4 1x16 GB, 3200MHz,' I just added a second 8GB stick in slot 2 (cheap PNY 3200MHz DDR4) without a problem. The use of 16GB memory module shouldn't be a problem since the system itself says it can have up to 32GB of memory (2x16).

Totally forgot about that issue. The memory that wasn't working was the Vengence series. It doesn't list the timing speed on the packaging. The label on the memory has CMSX16GX4M1A3200C22. According to the Corsair website, it shows DDR4 SODIMM 3200MHz CL22 Memory Kit for this model. Shouldn't that work? Could there be something else in the Corsair memory causing problems?
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. It has been a while since I have modified or built any PCs. I used to build all my high end PCs but haven't done that in a while.
Have a great week!

You're very welcome.
Yes, in theory that memory part number should have worked fine.
So, it has to be that the PC for some reason does not like the high-quality memory you installed.
I recommend you buy the Crucial memory kit recommended as compatible with your notebook.
Crucial 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT2K16G4SFRA32A | Crucial.com
You have a great week too, and I hope you are able to get your notebook running with 32 GB of memory installed.

Also found this about the Corsair memory--
- 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 SODIMM kit for 8th Generation or newer Intel Core i7, and AMD Ryzen 4000 Seires notebooks
So a more complete listing would have tole me that this wouldn't work on a Ryzen 5000 Series notebook.

To add a bit more info. When I tried Crucials recommended RAM for this laptop, it really crashed hard stating that my OS couldn't be authenticated. Talked to Crucials online support and decided just to punt. I have never had this much of a problem doing a simple memory upgrade on a laptop. This laptop states that it can accept 32GB of RAM. I am really questioning the integrity of HP at this point. Could they have put something in this inexpensive chasis to prevent upgrades? I was able to change the M.2 storage going from 500 GB to 2 TB.

So the Crucial CT2K16G4SFRA32A does also not work`? I am using a HP G8 255 with 5500U and My Venegance Kit 32GB 3200 CL22 did My Laptop make brrrr,
Cruel is that My GFs 2016 Laptop with Intel i5 66XX works fine with it. My Laptop also works with One Original or different RAM Modules plus one of the Venegance. I wanted to buy the CT2K16G4SFRA32A now but the last Reply scared Me...
HP should upgrade their BIOS Support and RAM Support Overall. Many Laptops have UEFI BIOS with many usefull Options while ours don't even allow Default RAM Timings and Settings. What a BS
