I bought this laptop HP envy 13 ab016nr just 3 days ago, config is core i5 7200, 8GB ddr3, 256gb ssd
I see that the fan is always on, I upgraded the bios to F.13 through HP driver upgrade site.
I dont see any fan control in BIOS system config. fan is running all the time irrespective of whether I am running any application or not. Please help

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
I'll be glad to help you 🙂
As I understand the laptop fan is always on & the BIOS fan control is not available,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Is the Fan making any loud/excessive noise?
(If it isn't, the fan running all the time, shouldn't be an issue)
That said, if the fan is noisy and spins constantly, here's what you need to do:
Updating your Notebook computer BIOS
After computers are released, HP may distribute an updated BIOS to manage the fan, CPU power loads, and other components. To see if there is a newer BIOS update, you should determine what version of the BIOS is currently installed on your computer, and then determine if there is a more recent version available.
For complete information on finding your current BIOS version as well as instruction for updating your notebook computer BIOS, see Updating the BIOS (not for Android or ChromeOS devices).
Keeping notebook air vents clear and clean
Electrical components inside the computer generate heat while the computer is running. This heat can increase to the point where sensitive electronic components are damaged.
When heat builds up, the fan spins faster to remove the excess heat and thus makes more noise. Notebook computers have vents in the bottom and sides to remove heat, allowing air to flow through the case. If the vents become blocked, the fan cannot cool the components properly (and must spin even faster). If there is dust in the vents, use a can of compressed air to blow dust out of the area inside vents. When the computer is turned on, place it on a hard, level surface keeping the vent areas unobstructed. Using your notebook computer on a cloth surface, such as your lap, a bed, or couch cushion, can block the air flow and cause overheating.

Hi,
The laptop is a new laptop, should I still go ahead and clean the airvents? It simply doesnt make sense
When I posted the message, I had already updated the bios to the latest F.13
My questions are:
1. Why is there no fan control either in Bios for my laptop? Lots of people posting in Amazon.com review claim they are able to control bios fan setting, why I dont have it
2. Why is the fan always on even when nothing was happening (browsers are closed, all programs are closed)? Even if I dont have fan control I expect laptop to do fan control depending on usage, why is it not happening?
Please come with specific answers not generic answers, I had rummaged through google and hp forums for this model number with no clear answer, see if you can talk to the guys who gave the specs to the laptop
Thanks,
Mugundhan

Hey Mugundhan,
Althoug I don't own the exact same laptop as you, I do own a Spectre of the same generation and can give you some input here.
I also can not find any way of controlling fan speed in my BIOS, I'm not sure why there are Amazon reviews mentioning it. My fan is usually spinning at least a little bit. If you want to control it, there are some software solutions that exist that may work for you (although I personally haven't tried anything). Just be careful when setting the fan speed low, as it's probably spinning for a reason!

Thanks for the reply, I searched for software speed control like speed fan etc but they couldn't detect any fan level controls..... Its just ridiculous, my concern is why some laptops have this sound while none of the reviews by experts or most of the reviewers have faced it...
