Our 5 year old pavilion laptop has burnt out causing fire damage to a shelf. It was unused for 14 hours and unplugged. It could of been catastrophic.

How can this happen when unused/unplugged?

Can the memory be recovered my daughter has lost all her coursework for college?

do warnings need to be sent out as we are very careful with electronics?

I’m really sorry this happened, that must have been frightening, and I’m glad no one was hurt. I understand how serious this is, especially with the risk involved and the loss of your daughter’s coursework.

For now, please do not power on or handle the laptop further. If possible, keep it isolated in a safe, non-flammable area. Fire-related incidents should always be treated with caution.

Hi Lee, my daughters laptop was five years old, HP pavilion was not on charged or plugged in for 14 hours or so. We discovered it as it had just started burning a shelf. Who knows if we had been out it could have burnt house down. The company we purchased from took it away, said it was a battery swell and refunded very quickly even though out of warranty allowing my daughter to get on with college work but as yet I have had no feedback from HP. HP were involved in the collection. Did you get help from HP?
