My laptop has developed a hinge problem in the last week. When the screen is opened the right rear area of the base cover is lifted up, and when the screen is lowered there is a loud pop and the cover opens up exposing the motherboard inside. If I press down on the black cover it presses back into place with a snapping sound. The screen hinge on the right has up and down play which the left side does not have. If I press the screen down when opening or closing it doesn't pull the corner open as much. There is the noise of a piece of plastic rattling around inside the laptop.
I have not tried removing the screws on the bottom silver cover of the laptop. I have seen many complaints about broken hinges on HP laptops. I have had this laptop for about 18 months and have not abused it at all. I am very familiar with building and repairing computer towers, but have little experience with laptops and so have not done any experimentation with the hardware. The nearest HP repair depot is about an hours drive from my home .
I was wondering what options I have before this problem grows.
