HP Laptop - 17-by3053cl
Microsoft Windows 11

I have issues with the hinges on my laptop.  I rarely close the laptop but when I did the other day, the hinge on the right side almost broke.  NO reason for that to have occurred as this laptop stays stationary since I purchased it August of 2020.  NOT under warranty unfortunately.  Any suggestions??

Hi@Hondu,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing Hinge issues with the HP Notebook. It is a hardware issue on the PC.

As we have limited support boundaries in the support community as of now. I would request you to contact our HP Support Engineers and should be able to sort this out. HP provides repair or service options for out of warranty products as well. Hence I encourage you to contact HP support for all warranty service options.

Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options.

So, had a second year of warranty through Costco, which is where the laptop was purchased.  To my chagrin, this issue is NOT covered as they said it was physical damage, based on their definitions.    THIS laptop sits on a desk, never gets moved and RARELY has been closed.   There simply has been NO abusive behavior for this issue to have occurred.  Case hardware simply should not fail with this little usage.   I cannot tell you how disappointed that I found out it is not covered.  The "suggested" fix costs in your post are prohibitive and NOT an option.

MY old DELL laptop case is still in tiptop shape and THAT laptop was moved EVERY day from home to office for over 8 years.  The ONLY reason I upgraded to this HP was for the new processor speeds and slightly larger screen.  ONCE this HP breaks, its getting wiped and going to the recycler.  I will move on to someone else.   HP,  never again. what a joke!

To make matters worse, I escalated my case up the chain of command.  Found a sympathetic ear that would go to bat for me.  They communicated back that they were going to fix my laptop and make an exception on the warranty.  I did what was asked of me, pulled all sensitive data off or did a backup of same.  Packed up the laptop for shipment and waited for the reply.  Reply came the next day and the level 2 took back the offer to repair.  To placate me, he offered a $250 certificate good in the HP store.  I was not happy but said Yes, send the certificate.  The next day, I receive the email and the certificate had been reduced to $125.  Talk about Overpromise and Underdeliver.    So, I am handy around a screwdriver so I took the bottom of the laptop off myself and removed the CD drive.  I then heard a bunch of rattling so tipped the laptop to the side and about 14 small pieces fell out of the laptop.  I simply put it back together and on my desk and will not close the top.  When the laptop fails, I will have a sledge hammer party outside and will NEVER purchase another item mfgr by HP.

I then received the standard survey request and let HP know how I felt and IF they had the B_lls to call me please do.  Nothing from them.  All I have received is the standard private reply "Thank you for responding.  I sincerely apologize that you are having so much trouble.  Please reach out if there is anything further."  What an insult.   So my advise is BUY A DELL

I too went to Costco for extended warranty help and got the same response.
