Hi @Biswajit1231,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Spectre is struggling with handling multiple applications, which can be particularly frustrating for software development tasks. Let's look into possible reasons and solutions for this.

Check System Specifications

  • CPU and RAM: If your Dell laptop has an i5 processor and feels faster, check if the Spectre has a less powerful CPU or lower RAM, as this can impact performance, especially with multiple apps running.
    • Solution: Consider upgrading your RAM if it's low (16GB or more is recommended for smooth multitasking, especially for coding).

Performance Mode

  • HP Spectre laptops often come with a performance mode that can be toggled between "Performance," "Balanced," and "Battery Saver" modes.
    • Solution: Ensure that your laptop is set to "Performance" mode. You can do this through the HP Command Center or Windows power settings.

Disk Usage and Storage Issues

  • A nearly full SSD can significantly slow down your system. Check if your SSD is running out of space.
    • Solution: Free up space on your SSD. If necessary, consider upgrading to a larger SSD.

Background Processes

  • Sometimes unnecessary background applications can consume a lot of resources.
    • Solution: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to see if there are resource-heavy processes. Consider disabling startup apps that aren’t necessary.

Thermal Throttling

  • If your laptop overheats, it may throttle performance to avoid damage.
    • Solution: Make sure your laptop has good airflow. You can also check CPU temperatures using tools like HWMonitor or Core Temp.

Outdated Drivers and Windows Updates

  • Outdated drivers, especially for your GPU and CPU, can affect performance.
    • Solution: Update all drivers through Windows Update or HP Support Assistant. Also, ensure your system is running the latest version of Windows.

Software Conflicts or Malware

  • Conflicts between software or potential malware can slow your system.
    • Solution: Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or another trusted antivirus software. Also, check for any unnecessary programs that may be running in the background.

Coding Environment Optimization

  • Development tools like IDEs (e.g., Visual Studio, Eclipse) can be resource-intensive.
    • Solution: Use lightweight code editors if possible (e.g., VS Code instead of full Visual Studio). Ensure that background processes in your development tools, like automatic linting or code analysis, are minimized.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
