A few months ago, I noticed an absolutely awful smell coming from my laptop. I noticed it was significantly worse when the laptop was on and almost no smell at all when off. After some testing, it seems that the battery was the culprit so I removed it and eventually got a replacement. After several weeks, the replacement started leaking the same smell and I removed it too. I will most likely not be putting another new battery in this thing.
My actual question though: Does anyone know what this gas is and how to remedy it? It is absolutely atrocious and has "infected" nearly anything plastic, resin, or glass in my apartment with this terrible stench. I think it's flourine gas, after doing a little digging, and i've been able to cut the smell down only by using regular water, baking soda, and covering things from open air. Once uncovered though, the smell comes back within maybe a minute or so on most things. Things like bottled water get instantly covered in this stuff. I've had my doors and windows open for weeks now and I can't get this very well under control. I've also tried using windex and vinegar but have not tried bleach as that might be reactive in an even more terrible way. Mostly though, this just keeps fuming. I actually used the water bottles around the house as stink beacons to identify infected things, which helped once they were removed, but either I haven't found everything that is infected or there's just gas in the air that won't evacuate.
Thanks community.
