My hp laptop charging cord is plugged in, the orange light is on shows it's charging, then the white shows it's charged but it is not. The battery icon shows the charger is plugged in but not charged as well.  The battery is a year old.

Hello.

 

Is your charger the correct model? If the charger is too low power, it may not be able to charge the laptop unless you shut it down. Also check your laptop downloads - there may be BIOS updates with fixes for the charging logic.

 

Also, your battery may be at fault.
