Not charging

It's likely at least a couple years old and 95% likelihood it needs a new battery. Have you run a diagnostic health test on the battery using HP Support Assistant?

Yes, I ran a diagnostic health test on the battery using HP Support Assistant, and it says "not attached to ac". But the charger was plugged in.

Confirming likely bad battery. But hate to say it can also be the charging circuit on the motherboard. Check the adapter if it's the barrel kind and be sure the center pin is not bent

Thank you for your information. Yes, I ran the diagnostic test and it says the battery is normal

The simple pass/fail test is not very informative or reliable. We need to look at the advanced output from the battery test to see how many cycles and the health of each cell.

Problem Solved!

Someone from the community had the same problem two years ago. His/her problem was solved through the following procedures. I followed the same procedure, and my laptop started charging. Thank you all!

Here is the info I read and to resolve my laptop's charging problem:

"It took a winding road of HP chat and then a live tech who sent me to Best Buy Geek Squad without an appointment which apparently you do not do, who then told me that they would have to send it to HP for 2-5 weeks but suggested I call HP directly first to see if they could do faster.

Magic. The HP tech in India (midnight there) suggest we try "one last slim chance step" before sending it in, "in case it was a static charge problem". His steps:

Unplug everything.

Power down.

Hold the power button for at least 40 seconds

Release

Plug in the power adapter.

Voila the power light went on, and when I powered up the unit indicated it was charging and it recognized all other devices when I plugged them in to the USB-C

Problem solved!"
