Laptop stopped charging suddenly today and the battery went down only. The charging indicator stopped working either when it shut down when the battery gone flat. When I turn it on and enter my password to access the PC I could hear some noise as if you turn of/on an old speaker. Just before it shut down I heard buzzing noise coming from the laptop. I think it's the battery

@MaksymL, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP laptop suddenly stopped charging, the battery drained, and you're now seeing no charging indicator or response. The buzzing sound you heard before shutdown could indicate a hardware issue, but let’s walk through some steps to diagnose and hopefully resolve this.
Perform a Hard Reset
This helps clear residual power and reset hardware connections:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and charger, then try powering it on.
Check the Power Adapter and Charging Port
- Inspect the adapter for damage or fraying.
- Try a different wall outlet.
- If available, test with another compatible HP charger.
- Check the charging port for dust or bent pins.
Battery and Adapter Test via HP Diagnostics
If the laptop powers on:
- Press Esc during startup, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the Battery Test and AC Adapter Test.
- You can also download HP Diagnostics from here:
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support
BIOS Update (if accessible)
Sometimes a BIOS update can fix charging issues:
- Visit HP Software & Driver Downloads and enter your laptop model.
- Download and install the latest BIOS version.
Inspect Battery Health in Windows
If the laptop boots:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Run: powercfg /batteryreport
- This generates a battery report in your user folder. Check for signs of battery degradation.
If Laptop Doesn’t Power On
- Try removing the battery (if removable) and powering on with just the adapter.
- If it still doesn’t turn on, it could be:
- A faulty battery
- A damaged charging circuit
- Motherboard or power IC issue
If none of the above helps, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
