I have the hp pavilion laptop and it's not charging.

I plug it in and the charging port makes a squeaking noise and then stops charging.

Hi @user_15,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Does the squeaking noise come directly from the charging port or from the adapter itself?
  • Have you tried using a different power outlet or a different charger (if available)?
  • Does the laptop battery indicator show that it’s charging at all, even briefly?

Troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check the charger and cable
    • Inspect the adapter and cable for any visible damage, fraying, or bent connectors.
    • If possible, test with another compatible HP charger to rule out adapter issues.
  2. Power reset
    • Shut down the laptop.
    • Disconnect the charger
    • Hold down the power button for 15–20 seconds to discharge residual power.
    •  reconnect the charger, and try powering on again.
  3. Inspect the charging port
    • Look for dust, debris, or looseness in the port.
    • If the port feels loose or continues to make noise, it may indicate a hardware issue.
  4. Battery health check
  • If your Pavilion model supports HP Support Assistant, run a battery diagnostic to see if the battery itself is failing.

I hope this helps.
