My HP laptop is not turning on. The power light is on and the fan is running, but the screen stays black. I tried holding the power button and removing the charger for a few minutes, but still no display. Please help me fix this.

Hi @Fazil_Bangroo,

I understand your HP laptop is powering on with the fan and lights working, but the screen stays black. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Perform a Hard Reset
Disconnect the charger and all external devices (mouse, keyboard, USB drives).
Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds, then reconnect the charger and try turning it on again.
This helps clear residual electrical charge and resets hardware components.

Check Display Brightness and External Monitor
Press the brightness up key (usually F3 or F4) to ensure the screen isn’t dimmed completely.
If you have an HDMI cable, connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV. If the display appears there, it indicates an internal display or cable issue.

Inspect for Backlight Activity
In a dark room, shine a flashlight closely at the screen after powering on. If you can faintly see the desktop or HP logo, the issue is likely with the display backlight or inverter.

Perform a BIOS Reset
Turn off the laptop completely, then press and hold the Windows + B keys together, and while holding them, press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
Release all keys and wait for the BIOS recovery screen. This resets display and firmware settings.

Reseat the RAM (if comfortable doing so)
Disconnect the power, remove the bottom cover, and carefully remove and reinsert the memory module(s).
Loose or improperly seated RAM often causes a black screen even when the laptop powers on.

I hope this helps.
