I have a pavilion 16 that I’ve had for 5 days. I plugged in a phone battery pack to charge it and the screen on the laptop turned off and now won’t turn back on. Charging light on the side isn’t on and none of the suggestions on Google work. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks

Hi @Christof198914,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Pavilion 16 laptop is not turning on, and the charging light is not illuminated. The issue could be related to the power supply or internal components.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Check the Power Supply:

  • Ensure that the AC adapter is securely connected to both the laptop and the power outlet.
  • Try using a different power outlet to rule out any outlet-related issues.
  • If possible, test with a different compatible AC adapter to ensure it's not a charger issue.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the laptop from the power source.
  • Remove the battery if it's removable. (Note: Most modern laptops come with non-removable batteries.)
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual charge.
  • Reconnect the battery and the power adapter, then attempt to power on the laptop.

Inspect Battery and Charging Light:

  • If your laptop supports a removable battery, reinsert it carefully.
  • Observe the charging light when plugging in the AC adapter. A steady or flashing amber light usually indicates charging; no light might indicate a connection issue.

Inspect for Damage:

  • Check for any visible damage to the charging port, power cable, or connectors that might hinder proper power flow.

Boot Without Peripherals:

  • Disconnect all peripherals (USB devices, external displays) and attempt to power on to rule out any external conflicts.

BIOS Recovery or Reset:

  • If applicable, perform a BIOS recovery/reset. Some HP laptops feature a BIOS recovery option: press and hold the 'Windows' key and 'B' simultaneously and then, while holding them, press and hold the power button for 1-2 seconds.
