My computer will not charge unless it is sleeping or off, I’ve tried multiple chargers using both the circular and usb-c charging port (both which works on other laptops) additionally I had the same issue when I got a replacement for work so I’ve had this issue on two separate laptops (same type) back to back, any advice?

Hi @Kai-77,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've tried a lot of the basic troubleshooting steps. Here are a few additional things you might want to check.
Battery and Charging Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. Check the settings under Battery and Power buttons and lid to make sure nothing is set to interfere with charging while the laptop is on.
Battery Driver:
- Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu), expand Batteries, right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and choose Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Sometimes charging issues can be related to BIOS settings. Enter the BIOS/UEFI during boot (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, or Delete) and look for any settings related to battery or power management. Make sure everything looks normal.
Firmware Update:
- Check if there’s a BIOS or firmware update available for your laptop model. HP sometimes releases updates that fix charging issues.
Battery Health Check:
- Some laptops have built-in diagnostic tools to check the battery’s health. You can access these through the BIOS/UEFI or by using a utility provided by HP.
Power Supply and Ports:
- Even though you've tried multiple chargers, make sure the power ports (both the circular and USB-C) are clean and free from debris. Sometimes, even minor obstructions can cause charging issues.
If these steps don’t help, it might be worth contacting HP Support for further assistance, as there could be a more complex issue at play.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
