HP Notebook - 15-db1150nz
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently repurposed this Laptop and was about to set up all my stuff including Games when i saw i only had 118GB of space in my C: folder. I thought it was odd since my way older Laptop had 930GB.

My boyfriend checked the product and serial number on this HP website and under „Hard Drive“ it says „512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD“ which should mean i technically should have 512GB, right? How do i fix this? Thank you for all support!

You have multiple partitions, or segments of the hard drive so a couple gigs is used by system type partitions and then the math is funny. A "128 gig" drive actually shows up as less than that.

Yes you can replace the smaller disk with a larger capacity but I think you want an NVME M.2 SSD sometimes called a "gumstick" drive. The one you linked is a 2.5 inch form factor and you would likely need additional hardware to make that work with your computer, if it would fit at all.

Look up Samsung 970 Evo Plus and see what kind I am talking about. If you need help with the actual replacement we can find you a service manual and likely even a video for "how to".

hi

https://support.hp.com/lv-en/document/c06297089

indeed, if you have this computer, it is equipped with an m2 ssd  ( 512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD )

so is it only that you have already used a lot of space, in this case, it is necessary to do a little cleaning
Simple first step, open explorer, right click on the system disk, then disk cleanup
check the boxes, checking that nothing important in the trash for example, then click, confirm, delete
then start again and this time click on clean up system files

see here

if that's not enough, see if you have photos videos, personal music

tell me the space used

Hello! Thank you for your fast answer! Thats exactly the page my Boyfriend used!

My issue isnt the used up space, it‘s more the fact that it says my max. storage is 118GB(screenshot added). I also used the HP assistant to clean up already and nothing changed.

i don’t have access to any of those 512GB that’s promised. Do you know what i can do about that?

However the Computer may originally have been equipped, that is a 128 gig hard drive, not a 512 gig.

hi

sorry, but do you remember if it was always this ability?
it seems here, that the disk is not the right one
Either it was never the right size or someone replaced it at some point..
thank you @Huffer

[edit]

Thank you so much for checking all of this! Its still a bit odd since it shows me 118GB instead of those supposed 128GB

Would i be able to change/swap out my original, internal hard drive for a 1TB SSD hard drive? I was thinking this one: https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-870-QVO-SATA-MZ-77Q1T0B/dp/B089C73T72

is that possible? Kind regards
