HP Envy 15 ae-117nf
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a HP Envy 15 ae-117nf laptop around a year and a half ago and it has been kinda puzzling me regarding the battery situation. My laptop starts charging only after a long while : when it has around 80% or less, no red light, the laptop isn't charging. However when I leave it for 4+ hours, the laptop starts charging and it's only then that I can see the red light indicating that it's charging, which means that I have to wait an additional hour or so until it's completely charged. That means that the laptop always has to be plugged in if i want to constantly use it and not wait for extended periods of time before it's charged. I've looked up my problem online but nobody seems to have the same problem as I do.

The charger is completely fine : I tried it with other laptops and it starts charging instantly, plus it's completely able to keep up with my cpu intensive applications when the battery is fully charged

For the last 6 months I've always been using the laptop when plugged in at home but now I'd like to have a bit more freedom with it.

Do you have any idea or solution to my problem ? This is becoming particularly annoying because it's no better than a desktop now.

Logical next step is to run a diagnostic on the battery. You can do that from within HP Support Assistant while Windows is running or in the preboot UEFI environment by tapping esc as you power up then F2 then component tests and power/battery. Try to cut and paste the advanced results not just pass or fail and we can see how healthy or sick the battery is. Knee-jerk reaction is you most likely need a new battery but let's not go there yet.

Thanks for your reply,

I ran the battery diagnostics on HP Support Assistant and as I expected, the battery is OK, the software didn't detect any problem with it.

I don't know why this is happening, as both my charger and battery seem to be OK...

The simple pass/fail is misleading. We need the full advanced output of the test. The difference between the idiot light on your car dashboard and results of a real diagnostic test.
