Just a few months ago my laptop was able to handle intensive gaming and everything else and overheating was never an issue. Since the last few months it gets hot very quickly and shuts down automatically while I am playing a game. To resolve this, I visited HP service centre and requested them to clean the fans, reinstall Windows 10 and format the device. But even after these steps the issue still persists. What can I do about it?

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with the computer overheating. I will be glad to assist you here. 🙂
To assist you with clarity, I would require more information regarding this.
- Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
- Does the computer freeze lockup or shutdown?
- Did you perform a bios update on the machine?
- Does the fan spin at all or if it does is it loud and noisy?
Let's start off by running a short or extensive system diagnostics test from F2(Please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance).
Always run a short test first, if available, to see if a failure is detected. If the short test does not detect a failure, run an extensive text.
If the test fails, then this clearly indicates a possible hardware failure with the PC. I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for further assistance.
HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.hp.com/contacthp
If the test passes, I would suggest you try these steps here:
For now please perform all the prescribed steps from this link: HP Notebook PCs - Reducing Heat Inside the Laptop to Prevent Overheating
Also, check this link out: HP Notebook PCs - Why Computers Generate Heat for further assistance. It has good to know information.
I would suggest here is to update the Bios and Chipset drivers. Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.
Eagerly waiting for your response!
that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

Hi,
Sorry for the late response. My computer managed to pass all the system and component tests. And as I have mentioned previously I have had it cleaned from a HP service center just recently. And for the drivers and BIOS, they are up to date.
Talking about drivers, the device manager shows that my GPU drivers are up to date but according to AMD auto-detect they are not. And whenever I update the drivers from AMD website the PC starts stuttering. So, I've rolled back the drivers to the original ones that came with the PC.

@EugeneBarnes, thanks for the prompt response and time.
I appreciate your efforts in trying out the steps.
As the issue still persists after trying out the steps.
Did you try running a system diagnostics test on the PC?
It certainly sounds like a hardware issue with the PC.

Have a blessed day ahead!
Take Care! 🙂

Hello, @MrRobot. As I have said previously the issue still persists and the PC has managed to pass the hardware and diagonostic tests. And for service center, I have just visited it a month ago. They did whatever they thought was required to solve the issue. Nothing helped. I am now really getting disappointed at the famed service of HP.
