Hello, I have an HP Envy x360 2-in-1 15m-bp111dx laptop which has 12gb of RAM factory installed. I want to upgrade to minimum of 16. Crucial says the max RAM is 16gb however a similar question was answered with the following:
“The 4GB RAM "module" is not removebale, as it is onboard (integrated on motherboard). There is only one upgradable slot. You can insert max 16GB module of DDR4 2400MHz for a total of 20GB.”
So if the stick of 4 is not removable am I stuck with my 12gb which CNET says is the max, or can I install a stick of 16gb to get 20gb as this question was answered on a separate community post? Or it it removable where I can in fact get to 16gb as crucial implies I can when going to buy ram.
Please help, I need 16 to run my software for work which is currently overloading my RAM at 90% and I can’t afford a new higher spec laptop at the moment.

Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook's model series.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05527167
As I interpret the manual...for the computer models with model numbers 15m-bp1xx through 15-bp1xx, there is 4 GB of non-removable system memory, and one memory slot that can take an 8 GB or16 GB PC4-2666 memory chip, based on the processor the PC has.
According to the specs, yours has an i5 processor.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05803124
That tells me that your notebook falls within the second spec listed in chapter 1, on the bottom of page 1.
12288-MB (8192-MB + 4096-MB on-board system memory [512-MB×16×4 pieces]; 8-GB DDR4 2666 SODIMM bridge to 8-GB DDR4 2400 1.2v SODIMM; not available on computer models equipped with an Intel i7 processor and a graphics subsystem with discrete memory).
So officially, you are already at the max, with 1 x 8 GB of removable memory and 4 GB onboard system memory.
If you want to experiment...I cannot guarantee this will work, but most Intel 8th gen core processors will run 32 GB of memory when the notebook has two memory slots, even though the official specs will indicate only 2 x 8 GB of memory is supported.
I believe that since your notebook has one memory slot, it will take 1 x 16 GB of memory, and work just fine, and you will end up with 20 GB of memory.
Again...that is just my opinion, and not an ironclad guarantee that a 16 GB memory chip will work in your specific model.
