My computer was purchased about two years ago. Only recently my computer made this cracking noise when I closed it. I looked around and couldn't find the issue until today when the trim around my screen was pulled off by half of my left plastic hinge, the bottom half. The hinge is in great condition and will even clip back on, but the issue is internally. Stripping back the trim and taking off the battery revealed the metal inside with connected by the hinge to my lid had come off; a black plastic gear that the metal thing had connected to had cracked and broken off. I don't know how to fix this. I am unable to open or close the lid for because of the broken connection on the left side, my plastic bottom hinge will not move, thus tearing my trim off the lid when I try to open or close.(This was posted word for word before on here but I have the exact same problem)

Hi @Seqora
As this is a hardware issue, I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer.
If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
Have a great day!
