HP Notebook - 15-ac153sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Had the laptop for just over a year, it's been used for gaming mostly. So reaches high temps sometimes around 60 to 70 c. Up until 2 months ago this laptop worked fine. Could be charged while playing and being used. Now when I plug the ac in, it can take seconds then it has shut itself down, no warning, nothing. The battery could be 20% up to 100% it will still shutdown.
I have tried many ways to get around this issue, 1 being cleaning the insides and adding a new thermal paste coat (reduced the temp by 10c or so). 2 disable Microsoft Ac adapter and Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery (this worked for a while but is now also shutting down when plugged in) makes it seem as if it's in safe mode (safe mode is the only spot I can charge the laptop while it's on and functioning). 3 was changing powerplan options to low (didn't work at all) 4th would have been getting a new charger and battery but cost money which I don't have to spend. If anyone knows how to fix would be very happy.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Riddle_Decipher is at your service.

As I understand the laptop shuts off when AC power adapter is plugged in, it works fine on battery power but as soon as you connect it to AC adapter, the laptop turns off,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you check with an alternate power adapter?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:

Possible cause:

1. Power adapter failure.
2. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution:

First of all, test the power adapter. Make sure the adapter outputs correct voltage. It’s possible that the output voltage is not correct and the laptop shuts down to prevent the damage. Test your laptop with another known good power adapter.

If the problem still exists, even after replacing the adapter, most likely it’s the motherboard failure. Replace the motherboard.

Hi

I do have same problem in HP Pro book G3

Laptop working well only in battery

Laptop working well only in Ac power by removing battery

Laptop shuts down in 10 minutes if it is operated in AC power and with battery

Found that CPU temperature rises immediately after AC power is switched on when battery is available

If both AC power and battery is available issue exists in presently working with only one source either battery or for ling time use only in AC power

Really strange and hardly finding time to take my system to service center

Having the EXACT same problem as Arulgovind. I've noticed that the CPU temps are not really a problem as whilst monitoring my ProBook 450 G3, the temps never went above 47°C.

Very strange behaviour indeed.

I can only imagine the device is switching from A/C power to battery power or vice versa and it causes a temporary lapse, but by that time it's too late and the system has powered down abruptly
