I have replaced motherboard with working item but it shuts down at exactly 30 mins of running. I have rechecked fan and it’s perfectly clean. Used a very good grease. Have checked all the settings. Ie close lid etc. cannot see anything that is causing this problem. Is motherboard faulty ?

Hi @Geoffdonna,
I suggest checking the Power options in the installed operating system.
Since that series of motherboard came to market around 2015, the "working item" may be reaching the end of its service life. Have you tried any of HP's hardware diagnostics utilities?

How much thermal interface material did you put on the heat transfer surfaces? It should have been pretty minimal. What do you consider to be a good "grease"? I have always used Arctic Silver and it has never disappointed me.
You made the statement " checked all settings". That isn't really specific.
The phrase , "the devil is in the details", really does apply to computers, operating systems and peripherals. Enlighten us, please.

Hi enrico, I have solved the problem !
I removed the i3 processor and replaced it with a 1.8 , laptop has been running perfectly for over / hrs now. Yes I also use arctic silver thermal grease. The setting I mentioned were in the advanced power settings ie what closing the lid does etc. thanks for your responses

"I removed the i3 processor and replaced it with a 1.8 " ? hmmm?
" 1.8"?
So the Core i3 was not compatible with the systemboard / BIOS. Good catch!

Hi Erico , the compaq cq58 had originally a 1.8 processor ( SR102 ) in a removable type socket.
the used motherboard I bought had a core i3 processor ( SR0TD ) so I just removed that one and put the processor in from original ( faulty ) motherboard Seems to have solved my shutting down problem

OK.
It would seem that the Core i3 processor on the used system board is faulty.
"1.8 processor ( SR102 )" If you had called it a Celeron processor I would have gotten that right away.
Well, the important thing is that your notebook is up and running.
