15g-br011tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently encountered a problem related to random forced shutdown of laptop.

I own HP 15g-br011tx and I'm running Windows 10 home build 1903 in it.

The problem I'm facing is after I boot into windows, It runs normally but after a certain period of time( it is random can be half an hour or 10 minutes or other) my laptop switches off (just like when Someone shutdowns the laptop by long pressing power button). After It Shuts down, for around 5 minutes it doesn't starts up even after pressing the power button and doesn't even shows the charging indicator if charger is connected. Then after Some time, I can normally start my system (also it starts to show charging indicator if charger is connected) but the same problem repeats itself after using my laptop for some time.

This issue is not Operating System dependent as I'm dual booting my system, Windows 10 Home and Ubuntu 18.04 and the same issue persists in both the OS.

Please help me fix the issue.

Thank you.

Please update the Notebook BIOS from this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Next keep the Notebook under observation in BIOS and let me if the Notebook shuts down in BIOS

Shut down the Notebook and upon restarting keep tapping on F10 till you see System Configuration Menu ( BIOS )

Keep me posted 😊

Hello sir,

Thank you for replying.

As for my BIOS it's the latest version F.60 which was updated from HP Support Assistant application.

And for the random shutdown, it occurred when I was using my system,  so I do not know if it will occur in BIOS but I will try to observe it and post if I found somthing.

Keeping the Notebook under observation in BIOS is crucial, it will help us understand if it's a Hardware or Software issue

Keep me posted 😊

For the last few days the issue was not occuring at all so I was not being able to monitor it. But today the same started occuring repeatedly, (when I  was trying to play some game) so as instructed I opened BIOS to monitor the issue and even in the bios the system got shut down.

To cross check it I opened BIOS again after I was able boot my machine and here it occurred again within minutes of opening BIOS.

I think  here the game thing is not the issue as I was playing the same for the last few days too but at that time it didn't occurred.

@Sadanand-

Thank you for the information. I recommend you run the power troubleshooter. The power timeout settings can affect your PC on various levels and the startup process is one of them. This checks how long the PC waits before turning off the display and to enter in sleep mode.

Here is how it is done.

Press ‘Win + I’ shortcut keys to open Windows Settings app.

Click on ‘Update & Security’, then go to the ‘Troubleshoot’ section from the left-side menu.

Scroll downwards a bit and click on the ‘Power’ option.

Click on ‘Run the Troubleshooter’. It will start detecting the problems and if it founds, go ahead fixing it.

If you continue facing the issue, then follow the below steps.

On your keyboard, press ‘Windows key + R’ and type ‘Powercfg.cpl’ in it.

Hit the ‘Enter’ key to open power options in the control panel.

From the left-hand side, click on ‘Choose what the power buttons do’.

Then, click on the link ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’.

From the bottom given power button options, uncheck the ‘Turn on fast startup’ option.

Click on ‘Save changes’ button.

Let me know how this goes.

If you feel my post solved your issue, please click “Accept as Solution”, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!
