Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I hadn't touched my laptop for a couple of days but when I picked it up earlier it was too hot to touch, I had to take it outside and leave it there so it didn't scorch anything. After about an hour it had cooled down enough for me to touch the power button and turn it on so the cooling system could kick in - which it did - and after a while it actually turned on. If I hadn't picked it up when I did I think it's pretty much certain that it would have caused a fire. This laptop is only a few months old!

Has anyone else had this problem? This is an extremely serious matter! I feel this may need returning.

I think it’s normal for a laptop to get warm while in use but it should never be too hot to touch. You gotta make sure nothing is blocking the airflow and that all the vents are clear of dust other wise it could over heat and cause serious damage and trouble.

Thanks for your reply, Thomas. This is what worries me, the laptop wasn't in use, it was turned off. It was sitting on a flat, hard surface with no obstructions of any kind and the vents are all clean and clear.

Hmm that is really strange, I never seen that before. perhaps someone used it and It had not had a chance to cool down yet and you did not see it.

Hi Thomas,

No, there wasn't anyone else to use it. I'm just glad I decided to use it when I did otherwise there would have been a fire.

I am not to sure what else to say on the matter. I am not a expert. my 17-ca1065cl is my first ever laptop and I just got it this year myself in July. I don't know much about laptops/notebooks but it does sound like your Envy is a defective product and its a good thing you did what you did I would not wanna see one catch fire. I also think leaving it outside could be part of the issue expecilly if it was a hot day. Please keep us updated on what happens.
