HP Notebook 15-bs059od
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I am a student from the US studying in Spain. My laptop is an HP Notebook 15-bs059od that I bought about a year ago. I don't know if it is dual voltage or not because I cannot find anything that says 100v or 100v-240v on the battery or the charging brick (that came with the laptop). I don't know if just using an adapter is okay, or if I need to invest in some sort of converter for it. All I know is that the charger is 45W (model HSTNN-LA40) and the battery says 10.95V -31.2Wh (and 2850mAh), but I don't know what these mean and cannot seem to find the input voltage number. I am extremely confused and lost right now.

Yes it is. You can also get the brick to wall cable for your particular location.

Look at p. 105 of the Service manual here:

11 Power cord set requirements The wide-range input feature of the computer permits it to operate from any line voltage from 100 to 120 volts ac, or from 220 to 240 volts ac. The 3-conductor power cord set included with the computer meets the requirements for use in the country or region where the equipment is purchased. Power cord sets for use in other countries and regions must meet the requirements of the country or region where the computer is used.

If it is a real HP adapter it can handle 100-240 volts AC input and the DC output is safe for the laptop. All you need is a plug adapter not a voltage adapter. The battery only receives power from the laptop charging system so it is never the problem it is the voltage input to the charging port.

Does the power brick still have an HP label on it like the one shown here?:

This is the charger that I have that came in the same box as my laptop. It doesn't really look like the one in the other picture.20181015_210937.jpg

The picture is just fuzzy enough and the printing microscopic enough I cannot fully make it out but I can read it says replace with HP Spare 741727-001 which is the same adapter I identified.

Did you buy your laptop in the USA? All adapters made by HP are variable voltage 100-240 so work worldwide. I do agree that label lacks a lot of the detail I am used to seeing, however.

I did indeed buy it in the US. So it should be safe for me to use with just an adapter?
